Aid in support of gender equality and women’s empowerment


How much aid do donor countries give to support gender equality?

This report summarises statistics of foreign aid focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment by members of the OECD Development Assistant Committee (DAC). The report includes statistics for countries which report on the gender equality policy marker: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, European Commission, Germany, Greece, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The report summarises the statistics for each country as follows:

  • gender equality policy marker coverage
  • the top ten recipients of aid for gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • a sector breakdown of aid focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment
The report stipulates that when comparing data between donors, both coverage ratio and the percentage of aid focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment should be considered.
