HIV risk exposure among young children

A study of 2-9 year olds served by public health facilities in the Free State, South Africa

Produced by: Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) 2005

The report details the discovery that while most of the HIV infections were found to be associated with mother's HIV-positive status, there is the potential for transmission of HIV to children by women breastfeeding childrenw ho are not their own. Evidence generated from this study suggests there is a need to reduce the potential for HIV transmission in dental, maternity and paediatric facilities.
