This report emerged out of an Expert Group Meeting arranged by the UN Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) to contribute to the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA). The focus was on the BPfA commitment to strengthen 'national mechanisms' for the advancement of women, an area to be discussed during the forty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in 2005.
