Global employment trends and challenges for 2005

This Brief focuses on increasing employment and poverty alleviation, and improving the conditions of work in the global economy. The paper reviews the labour market trends of 2004 and identifies and addresses six key labour market challenges for 2005. These challenges are: the December 26th Asian Tsunami disaster; the HIV/AIDS epidemic; agricultural productivity in developing economies; outsourcing of employment; working conditions in the informal economy; and youth employment.
