Same old challenges - life 21 years after the United Nations Decade for Women - Anesu Makina

The 3rd World Conference on Women was held in Nairobi in 1985. It was of significance because it marked the end of the United Nations Decade for Women and was themed Forward-Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women. This briefing will investigate culture, tradition and religion as the main reasons for the conference's failure to positively affect more lives in Africa. In my discussion, I will reflect on the Nairobi coference's strategy, bearing in mind the complexities and challenges for African women two decades after the conference.
